Trump's Election Deniers

By Christopher M Peeks October 17th, 2024

The Republican Party's ties to election denialism have come under fire as more than 30 'fake electors' and election deniers back Donald Trump's 2024 bid. A CNN investigation reveals these individuals, some facing criminal charges, are serving as Trump's official electors in battleground states.

In Michigan, six GOP electors are facing charges for signing phony certificates in 2020. Another six have falsely claimed the election was fraudulent.

GOP chairman Pete Hoekstra defends their involvement, saying they 'have their day in court."

Pennsylvania's elector slate includes five 2020 fake electors, with Bill Bachenberg linked to efforts to breach election systems. Carla Sands and Fred Keller have also peddled election conspiracy theories.

Nevada's GOP chairman, Michael McDonald, and Jesse Law were indicted last year but had charges dropped. Bruce Parks, Washoe County GOP chairman, regularly touts false claims of mass voter fraud.

Georgia's elector slate includes Caroline Jeffords, Salleigh Grubbs, and Suzi Voyles, all embracing election denialism. Josh McKoon, Georgia Republican Party chair, refuses to acknowledge Trump lost the state.

Wisconsin's fake GOP electors agreed to stay out of the 2024 election process, but state Rep. Angie Sapik has raised concerns about ballot mistakes and questioned election legitimacy.

New Mexico's Debbie Maestas, a 2020 fake elector, serves as a presidential elector in 2024. Arizona GOP chairwoman Gina Swoboda claims the 2020 election was 'stolen fair and square' from Trump.

These findings raise concerns about post-election chaos if Trump loses and these electors try to subvert the will of voters. The Republican Party's continued embrace of election denialism threatens democracy.
