Trump edges Harris in another Georgia poll

Vice President Harris continues to receive lousy polling numbers from the Sunbelt. The crucial battleground state of Georgia, narrowly won by President Biden in 2020, is leaning towards former President Trump by a similar margin, according to a new poll conducted last week.

Although the Marist Institute for Public Policy show the two candidates locked in a dead heat as the campaign enters October, with Donald Trump holding a narrow 50%-49% lead over Kamala Harris, the underlying numbers reveal some troubling data for the Vice President.

Independents favour Harris by 5 points, 51% to 46%. However, Biden carried them by 9% in 2020. Trump is polling at 44% with females, 1% down from 2020, but 3% better with men 56% versus 53%. With white voters, 66% picked Trump—the same as in 2020. Similarly, as in the prior election, 13% of black voters backed the former president. The swing vote appears to be with the youth. In 2020, Biden crushed Trump with 18-29-year-olds winning 61% to 39%. For Harris to carry Georgia, she has to make up ground with this demographic.
