The 2024 DNC

By Christopher Peeks August 22, 2024

Like most Americans, for whatever reason, I tuned into the DNC as opposed to the RNC. America already knew what a third coronation of Donald Trump as the GOP nominee would look like. Harris, still an unknown to voters, drew in not only enthusiastic Dems but curious politicos eagerly waiting to hear the speeches from prominent party leaders.

Union Hall featured a star-studded lineup. President Biden, the Obamas, Hillary, and, of course, Bill Clinton. Who, in my opinion, gave the best speech? Everyone's interpretation of the speakers is different. There is no sense in delving into that analysis.

At first, I came away surprised at the route the Democrats took with the message portrayed to America. I thought spending an entire night on abortion seemed a risky gamble. They already had those voters. This issue may send Republicans reluctant about another Trump administration, considering Kamala back into the former president's camp.

I also question bringing up George Floyd. Race, as always, is such a sensitive issue. But American politics seems divided along racial lines and, to some extent, gender. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

After analyzing the convention, I found that their strategy makes much more sense. They, like the Republicans, are playing identity politics. Did they have any other choice? If the Republicans' strategy is to run their vote totals up with white males, then the Democrats' only option is to run their numbers up with minorities. It's unfortunate that American politics has reached this point. However, perhaps that throughout history, voters have consistently chosen leaders based on these criteria.

The polarization of America's electorate is more evident now than ever, as reflected in the polls. The era of swing voters is long gone, with candidates no longer able to sway soccer moms or NASCAR dads. The majority of people have already made their decision.

It will be interesting to see how voters will react to the DNC. Only time will tell. I don't anticipate a significant shift in opinion if any at all. It's been years since we've seen any substantial convention bounces.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are now just seventy-four days away from election day! The pre-election pageantry for both parties has come to an end. Kamala's honeymoon period is over, and now, the real race begins. It's time for the gloves to come off, because things are about to get intense and exciting. Get ready, because it's game on.
