Bill Baxley Tells George Wallace Stories
Earlier today, at the end of the Huntsville Rotary Club luncheon, in which the legendary Bill Baxley spoke to the many dignitaries in attendance, telling about his career, most notably humorous stories about former Alabama Governor George Wallace. One of the most high-profile guests in the room, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, left the door open to a possible candidacy to be Alabama's next governor in the 2026 mid-term elections.
The Mystery Answer
At the end of Baxley's speech, I caught up with the Huntsville Mayo r and asked if he planned to run for governor in 2026. While shaking hands with the very tall, distinguished looking Battle, he at first seemed to decline, stating, "I think I am happy where I am," but when asked if I could quote him, the Huntsville Mayor teased about a possible 2026 bid, saying, "It would take a hard push. We'll see."
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle to Alabama Governor?
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, who previously ran for Alabama governor in 2018, with his visionary leadership, has turned the Rocket City into the number one city in the yellowhammer state. He has Huntsville on the path to be the next booming southern city like Nashville or Charlotte. Mayor Battle, if able to get campaign funds, would prove a formidable opponent for anyone seeking to be the next Alabama governor.
