Chris Christie, the former New Jersey Governor, has launched a new ad in which he fiercely criticizes former President Trump, the current GOP presidential front-runner and his rival, declaring that Trump will "burn America to the ground." Christie's 30-second ad is part of a seven-figure advertisement campaign in New Hampshire across broadcast and digital platforms and is a clear indication of his intentions to propel his long-shot campaign.
According to the surveys included in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling index, Christie is currently polling at 11 percent support in New Hampshire, putting him third behind Trump's 43.7 percent and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s 26.7 percent. Nationally, he is drawing 3.2 percent support, compared to Trump’s 63.1 percent.
Christie has been one of the most vocal critics of Trump and has made his attacks on the former president a central focus of his White House bid. In his first campaign ad released earlier this month, he called out the other candidates for going after each other instead of focusing their criticism on the clear front-runner. In that ad, he pitched himself as the "only one" going after Trump.
In his latest ad, posted on X (formerly called Twitter), Christie claims that "every Republican leader" privately criticizes Trump but says he is "the only one saying it in public." Christie's video shows him asking "What kind of president do we want? A liar or someone who’s got the guts to tell the truth?" and ends with him urging New Hampshire to vote for the latter.
The Hill has contacted Trump's campaign for comment, but it remains to be seen if they will respond.
