A Democrat lock: A political analysis on why Alabama Congressional District 7 is a fools errand for a Republican candidate.

Alabama Congressional District 7 Is A Democrat Lock

Some things in life are just a given. As Benjamin Franklin eloquently told us, there are two things we can be sure of: death and taxes. A third is that the United States House of Representatives Alabama Congressional District 7 will go to the Democratic candidate.

Fool's Errand

I am amazed each year when I read headlines in the election news that anyone takes on this fool's errand, but like another old adage, a sucker is born every minute. I know Rush Limbaugh once said, "No one should run unopposed," but unless one just wants to have on their resume that they were the Republican nominee for Al House District 7, there is no other reason fathomable to be Terry Sewell or who the Seventh District nominee is, a sacrificial lamb.

Terry Sewell Overwhelming Advantage

For starters, you will have zero money facing an entrenched incumbent with a campaign war chest numbering in the millions. Terry Sewell's name recognition, notwithstanding, is popular. If she were not, the people of the seventh district would replace her with another Democrat, not a member of the GOP.

Poking The Bear

Not to mention, do you really want to awaken a bear in hibernation? When a Republican candidate in Al House District 7 starts making enough noise, Congresswoman Sewell opens the campaign coffers, funding every Jefferson County Democrat get-out-the-voter effort. Neither did she hurt the newly elected Al House District 2 congressman, Democrat Shamroi Figures.

Analysis

Some lessons are never learned. Just like Alabama is a red state. District 7, since its creation, is blue. Even after losing some areas to help bolster Democratic chances in the second congressional district, the incumbent congresswoman, Terry Sewell, still outdistanced her opponent by a 2-to-1 margin.

Conclusion

Stop wasting resources on a congressional seat that, unless you're a Democrat, is fool's gold to a Republican.
